Perth and Fremantle

Hi All,
Helen here.
Our last stop in Australia was Fremantle which is the port city for Perth. It is located on the Swan River. The river got its name from all the black swans that live on it.

We took a ferry from Fremantle to Perth. There were some big beautiful homes on the river. There is a lot of money here from the iron ore industry.

Perth is a bustling, booming city. They have a lot of construction going on on the right side of the picture. Not everyone is happy about all the new high rises and big hotels going up.

They have set aside 1000 acres of parkland that will never be developed. There is a beautiful garden where people come for the wonderful cool breezes off the ocean. Perth can get very hot. I would compare it to Southern California.

In the park they also have a memorial to all the Australian that died in all wars.

In downtown Perth they have kept some of the old facades. There are many shopping areas.

We stopped at this really cool beach that had these fun sculptures. The Aussies do love their beaches.

The second day we explored Fremantle. This is the market that is open only on the weekends. They had everything from boomerangs to spices and produce.

A lot of neat old buildings in Fremantle. We walked a lot and did a little shopping. Wanted to spend the rest of our Australian dollars.

There were some walking streets that have cafes, bars and restaurants. Fremantle is a nice little port city. It is a very popular place on the weekends where lots of people come for an evening out.
We are now off to our next adventure. We will be at sea for the next six days crossing the Indian Ocean. Our next port of call will be Port Louis, Mauritius.
See you next time.
