Albany and The Valley of the Giants

Hi All,

Jer here today.

Yesterday at noon we arrived in Fremantle/Perth.  Fremantle is the port city for Perth which is about 15 miles up the Swan River from the ocean.  This is the end of the third segment of the World Cruise, so some passengers doing segments are leaving  today while others are boarding.  We leave here this evening for our six day trip across the Indian Ocean, we are hoping for smooth seas.  Our next port is Port Louis, Mauritius on Mar 20.

We won’t post about Perth today, we will save that for tomorrow.  Today we will post about our day Wednesday in Albany and our tour to The Valley of the Giants.  We don’t have any pictures of Albany as we only passed through it on our tour bus, but it is a very neat, pretty town of 36,000.

The Valley of the Giants is park where the giant Red Tingle trees grow.  This is the only place in the world where these trees grow.

While these trees are big, they are not nearly as big as the California Redwoods.  But the really neat thing in the park is a walkway that lets visitors walk through the upper canopy of the trees.

This walkway is over 100 feet above the ground.

Helen isn’t usually crazy about heights, but she loved this walk through the trees.

After our visit to the park, we had lunch at a restaurant with beautiful views of the ocean.

After lunch we stopped at a winery for a bit of wine tasting.  This area of southwest Australia has hundreds of wineries.  We got a bonus on our way back to the ship when we saw a group of Kangaroos grazing in a field.

So that is a look at our enjoyable day in Albany.  We sailed from Albany at 4pm for Perth.  Bye for now, will post tomorrow about Perth, another beautiful Australian city. Are you seeing a trend, we like it here :).
