Bay of Islands, New Zealand

Hi All,

  Just a short update on where we are.  The day started out with this beautiful sunrise we saw while walking on the deck.

Later in the morning we sailed into Bay of Islands, New Zealand.  This is really a makeup stop for having missed Rarotonga.  Bay of Islands is off the northeast coast of New Zealand and consists of over 150 islands.  Some of the islands are quite small and uninhabited while others are much larger and have many people and homes.  This area is a tourist destination especially in the New Zealand summer which is now.  Here is a picture of the ship’s tender going ashore just after we anchored.

We visited the small town of Paihia on one of the islands.  We spent several hours in the town, and it was a fun day.

 

So now we are on our way to Auckland where we will be for two days.  We are really looking forward to exploring this exciting city and will post some pictures soon.

BTW, today is Wednesday, yesterday was Monday.  Where did Tuesday go?  Of course we crossed the international date line and are now in the Eastern hemisphere.  We missed Fat Tuesday, bummer!
